Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres is a charity which provides practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends. This amazing organisation has received over £3.1 Million from our players to date.

Last week, a new Maggie's Centre was officially opened in the grounds of Monklands Hospital, Airdrie, Lanarkshire. This Centre has been providing a full programme of support since June but this special event marked the completion of the building itself and its beautiful walled garden.

The event was attended by Laura Lee, Chief Executive of Maggie's, and golf legend Colin Montgomerie. The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation, created by Colin in memory of his mother, contributed more than £1.2 Million to the cost of the build.

Clara Govier, Head of Charities at People's Postcode Lottery, was also in attendance. "I am thrilled to see another wonderful Maggie's Centre opening," she said. "The number of people who will benefit from the support of the fabulous team here at Maggie's is wonderful and I am delighted that players of People's Postcode Lottery are supporting this amazing charity."

The Centre, which has been designed by renowned architects Reiach and Hall, has been developed by Maggie's working in partnership with NHS Lanarkshire to enhance the cancer care and support already on offer at hospitals in the region.

Visitors to the Centre will be able to access the huge range of support that Maggie's offer, including psychological support, benefits advice, nutrition workshops, relaxation and stress management, art therapy, tai chi and yoga.

Golfer Colin Montgomerie said, "I am hugely honoured to see Maggie's Lanarkshire at the Elizabeth Montgomerie Building open. I feel immensely proud to have my mum's name attached to a second incredible building in an area where I know Maggie's is very much needed."

Maggie's Chief Executive Laura Lee added, "I am delighted that Maggie's Lanarkshire at the Elizabeth Montgomerie Building has been offering a much needed programme of support to people with cancer and their family and friends across Lanarkshire since June and it is wonderful to celebrate the full opening of the completed Centre."
