Supporting Communities

Our players are helping a range of deserving projects to make a difference in their communities
David Nicolson called some of the charities to let them know their applications were successful

237 community projects across Britain have been awarded funding thanks to players of People's Postcode Lottery.

Totalling almost £3 Million, the funding was awarded by People's Postcode Trust, Postcode Local Trust and Postcode Community Trust. The player-supported trusts provide grants of up to £20,000 which can be used for a wide variety of projects encompassing poverty-reduction, human rights issues, community inclusion and improving the environment.

A Big Difference

A few of the charities received an exciting call from David Nicolson, from our Charities team, to let them know they've been successful in their application for funding.

  • My Sisters' House has been awarded £2,000 from People's Postcode Trust. The charity works across West Sussex to support women facing difficult situations. This funding will enable it to provide one-to-one help and advocacy to women who have experienced domestic abuse, have mental health issues, as well as those living in poverty. This support will allow women to get back on their feet and achieve positive change they can be proud of
  • Settle Support has been awarded £20,000 from People's Postcode Trust. Settle supports vulnerable young people who had been living in care as they move into their first home. One in four young care leavers are homeless at 18. Thanks to funding raised by players of People's Postcode Lottery, Settle will provide one-to-one support to young people across London to help them live independently for the first time. From cooking through to managing a tenancy and securing a job, Settle will make sure they have the help they need to thrive.
  • Neuro Therapy Centre has been awarded £14,117 from Postcode Community Trust. Being diagnosed with a neurological condition can be scary but the Neuro Therapy Centre provides care, friendship and advice to people across North Wales, Cheshire and the Wirral following a diagnosis. Funding from players of People's Postcode Lottery will support its Talking Spaces project, where people with conditions such as Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis and Motor Neurone Disease can talk openly, help one another and feel less isolated

Julie Budge, founder and CEO at My Sisters' House, said, "It is just going to make such a difference on the ground to women in the most severe difficulty. A heartfelt thank you to players for the support because really, the difference it is going to make to the support we can give them is bigger than I can say."

David Nicolson said, "It was such a pleasure to let these charities, amongst hundreds of others, know that they've been successful for a grant. It's a challenging time for everyone right now and it's important to remember the difficult situations people were facing before this crisis, which have only been exacerbated now.

"These local organisations know best what their communities need, and it was truly inspiring to hear how the funding raised by players will help them to support those who need it."

Deserving Causes

Players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised over £500 Million for charities and good causes across Britain. People's Postcode Trust, Postcode Local Trust, and Postcode Community Trust will open for the next round of funding applications in August.
