Three Torquay neighbours are in shock this weekend after winning big with our Sunday Street Prize. The winning postcode, TQ1 1LH, netted a £30,000 cash windfall for two neighbours, with a third taking home £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets.
NHS worker Diana learned that she had won £30,000 during a video call with Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson. As a golden envelope was opened to reveal her winnings Diana exclaimed, "Oh my God! Oh that's amazing. Thank you so much. That's going to help out so much."
On being asked how she felt, Diana added, "I think it'll take a while for it to sink in, I just can't believe it. I think it's so surreal, I've never won anything like that. My stomach is in butterflies."
Diana's first thoughts on the prize were for her family. She said, "My daughter is going to be over the moon, my husband is going to be over the moon. I'll be able to help some of the family out. It's just brilliant."
The mum-of-two was quick to say how she will treat her family with the windfall. Diana said, "I've got a son who's 24 and he's just moved out, so hopefully I'll be able to give him a little bit to make his mark on the property he's bought with his girlfriend. It's a house that needs a little bit of work so I'll be able help him out a little bit there, maybe help him with a new kitchen I think he's looking for.
"I've got a daughter who's 14 who is into football and go-karting so she wants to go have a day doing that, so I'll be able to treat her and take her go-karting!"
Keeping Positive Is The Key
Diana added that the winnings would also help the family celebrate a very special birthday. She said, "It's my husband's 50th in November, so I think we might be doing something a little bit special for him. I'll give him a bit more than a pair of socks and handkerchief this year!"
When Diana was asked if there was anything she wants for herself, her thoughts stayed with her family. She said, "Helping them out will help me out as well. Seeing them happy will make me happy!" After a short pause, she modestly added, "I might treat myself to some make up!"
Diana was thrilled to be winning with some of her neighbours and said, "I know a few of the neighbours along here and some of them definitely deserve it. We all work hard and do our bit. Knowing that somebody else has got that excitement and feelings that I've had today, it's just amazing. You've got to keep optimistic in this world and you've got to keep positive and that's what I do. You never know what's around the corner and this just proves it."
Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson sent his best wishes to all our lucky winners. Danyl said, "I am so happy for Diana and our other Torquay winners, congratulations to them all. It was so nice to bring the news to Diana and hear about her ideas for sharing the winnings with her family, I hope they enjoy all the treats she is planning for them!"
