Gleeful In Griffithstown
July's draws have thrilling £30,000 Street Prizes surprising happy players every single day. Today, six Griffithstown neighbours have scooped a £30,000 cheque each, all thanks to their lucky postcode, NP4 5AP.
One of our winners, Paul, had plenty to celebrate when he landed the prize, with the win coming a few days after his 60th birthday. Ex-serviceman Paul discovered how much he'd won during a video call with Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson.
When he saw the figure on his cheque he was delighted. He said, "Absolutely amazing! That will really help us out. I am elated! This really couldn't come at a better time. I am absolutely overjoyed.
"I was thinking about cancelling but forgot to do it. Then we get this surprise!"
Paul plans to spend the win on doing up his house, but his wife, Delia, four children, and six grandchildren will be helping him spend it, too. He said, "My wife is sat across from me and is looking at the measurements of the curtains and the bathroom already. We were in the process of having the bathroom done and some other bits and pieces around the house. We can actually get them done now!"
Delia interrupted, "Shoes! A handbag..."
Paul continued, "It's my birthday so I have my kids and grandchildren coming around, but now I have this they will be tapping me up for a few bob, no doubt!" He joked, "My daughter actually won £1,000 a month or so ago. I'll rub this one in!"
There was no mention of spending the prize money on a holiday abroad as Paul talked about how much he loved home. He said, "You don't always realise how lovely this country is. I was in the military for a long time and have been all over the world, but there's always something about coming home. You go out to the countryside listen to the birds and the animals. It's the little things like that. I would never live anywhere else!"
Matt Johnson said, "As a fellow Welshman it was my pleasure to virtually reveal Paul's cheque, especially on his birthday! A huge congratulations to our other winners too. I hope everyone enjoys spending the cash and treats themselves to something nice."
Good Causes Across Britain
Today's prize is part of a draw promoted by Sightsavers, which has received over £3.9 Million thanks to player support. This funding is helping prevent sight loss and avoidable blindness in the world's poorest countries, treating conditions such as cataracts and fighting debilitating eye diseases.
With 32% of the ticket price going to charities and good causes, players of People's Postcode Lottery have now raised over £500 Million for more than 7,500 projects and groups across the world.
