Watford With The Win
The first Saturday Street Prize of October has landed in Watford, and what a win it is! Ian McCaig, 73, was at home with his partner Lesley when People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Scott Quinnell dropped by to present him with a £25,000 cheque. Ian's postcode, WD19 6NG, was selected as this week's Saturday Street Prize winner.
"It was a shock," he said. "A very pleasant shock."
A retired lorry driver, Ian has been playing People's Postcode Lottery for just over a year. "I signed up to support good causes," he said. "It was so easy to play – I'm sure my neighbours will be kicking themselves that they don't play too."
Although the win was a shock for Ian, he does already have a few plans on how to spend the money. "We were planning a holiday together anyway, but now we can make it a bit more special," he said. "My daughter lives in Australia, and Lesley's son lives in Taiwan, so we might be able to combine two trips into one big holiday."
With six children and six grandchildren between them, Ian and Lesley have plenty of people to treat with the money, which will definitely come in handy over Christmas!
People's Postcode Lottery doesn't just award fantastic prizes to players. Charities and good causes across Britain and beyond are always winners – players have raised an incredible £86.8 Million for them so far.
One lucky charity near Watford to receive funds from players is the Fighting Chance Project's Willow Heart Judo Club, a grassroots community judo club and member of the British Judo Association. The project was awarded £1,600 from players for the Yellow Belt Challenge - a project that works in areas of high deprivation to engage disadvantaged and vulnerable young people. The new grades earned throughout the challenge help build confidence, and the judo coaching team provides positive new role models in the lives of the participants.
