Celebrations In Shotts

05 April 2020 - ML7 5EJ - Shotts - £50,000
Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier reveals the winning postcode for our £50,000 Street Prize

Two neighbours in Shotts are in the money this weekend after their postcode, ML7 5EJ, was drawn as the winner of our Sunday Street Prize

Totally Unbelievable

This was the second lot of good news for Maureen and her husband James as they became grand-parents last month. Retired shop worker Maureen said, "I never win anything, it's totally unbelievable, I keep pinching myself. It's hard to grasp winning that much money. Our new twin granddaughters were born on the 17th of March, so I'm overwhelmed with everything that's happening right now.

"Someone must have been looking down on us and thought, 'Those two poor old souls need a wee break!' My son and the twins are living with us at the moment so we're able to share the first few months of their lives. It's a blessing, they're wee angels. One is named after a Viking warrior (Freya) and the other a goddess from Greek mythology (Theia), so who knows how they will turn out! They will definitely have a terrific Christmas thanks to winning, that's for sure."

Well-Deserved Holiday

As well as treating the family, Maureen and James want to take a well-deserved holiday when they can. She said, "We haven't been on holiday together for years. I'll go anywhere sunny, especially living in Shotts! It isn't exactly known for the good weather.  We obviously can't jump on a plane right now, so we have some time to think it over, but I'm thinking either America or Australia. They're both places you see on the television and the internet and think you'd love to go to. The music down south in America would be great. I'd also love to go to New York. Even talking about this now is making me emotional! We're just normal grandparents, we don't win money like this!"

Maureen joked, "Shotts is famous for things like the high-security prison, not this! It's nice to hear good news at this time and know good things are still happening. I'd be standing out in the middle of the street screaming if I could. The last time I was walking up and down like was when I was expecting my daughter and was having contractions! I'm still in amazement that we've won something like this. I'm so thankful."

Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier said, "Well it's certainly been a crazy month for Maureen! I'm gutted I was unable to visit her in person to give her a cheque, but it's lovely to hear she has new granddaughters to spoil with the money. Congratulations to the other winner too, I'm sure they'll be just as excited as Maureen."
