Street Prize

Bonanza For Birmingham

05 August 2017 - B43 7QJ - Birmingham - £30,000

Eight Birmingham residents are celebrating this week after winning big with People's Postcode Lottery. Their postcode, B43 7QJ, was drawn as our Saturday Street Prize winner, landing the Park Farm Road neighbours £30,000 each.

Vicki Amos was joined by her husband Gerald when she was presented with her cheque. She said, "This is really just the most incredible thing – I just can't stop smiling. What it really means for us is freedom and choice, which is the most amazing thing. We'll be able to do things like go on nice holidays now, which we wouldn't have been able to do before without lots of saving. I'm just blown away."

Susan Selvey said, "I originally signed up to play because of the money that goes to charity – I honestly never thought I'd win. The money will make such a big difference to my family: I'm going to learn to drive, and I'm going to take my three children to Kurdistan to visit their grandparents. They're seven, eight and eleven and have never met them before, so it will be amazing to be able to finally introduce them."

Eric Kyte was delighted to share the win with his neighbours. "I have lots of friends on the street so I'm very pleased that they've won too. Since we heard we'd be getting a visit we've all been guessing and speculating over how much it could be – it has been very exciting. I've lived in this house since it was built 56 years ago, and it's been a lucky place all round.

"I'm comfortable and don't need a lot so I'll be helping out my family with the win and also giving money to charity. I lost my wife in December and there were some of fantastic charities who supported both of us through her illness, so I'm going to give back to them."

Landscaper Bob Cupit also talked about how pleased he was to win with others on the street. "It's a very tight-knit community – we all look after each other and help each other out, so I'm very pleased to share this exciting win with some great people. My wife Lidia and I will be spoiling some of our friends with the money as we've had a lot of support recently, but we'll also treat ourselves to some splurging!"

Debbie Shrimpton had a full house of people to celebrate with when she was presented with her prize. "I have my parents and my late husband's parents here, so, along with my two children, we're going to go out for a big family meal to celebrate. My kids Jayden and Mia will be getting something nice – they're both very into clothes at the moment – and I'm going to treat myself to something special too, maybe a designer watch!"

Keith Mason was also one of the winners. "It's so fantastic! I really wasn't expecting to win so much, so I haven't thought about what the money might go on – maybe a holiday. I'm sure my wife, Janet, will have some ideas and I have two sons in their early twenties so I'm sure they'll each get a little something too."

Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier said, "I have had a fantastic time here in Birmingham. I don't think the win could have gone to a nicer group of people, and it's wonderful to see the community spirit among the neighbours. Congratulations all!"

A minimum of 30% of the ticket price goes to charities. To date, players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised more than £221 Million for over 2,800 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.

A local cause that has received support from players is Care Link West Midlands. The charity was awarded £4,850 last year to run an inclusive community sports programme for refugee women and girls.

One player in Stoke Climsland was also in luck this weekend, as they picked up £30,000 when their postcode, PL17 8PG, was drawn as Sunday's Street Prize winner.
