There are celebrations on one street in Barnard Castle today after four lucky neighbours scooped a £30,000 prize each, all thanks to playing People's Postcode Lottery.
The Dawson Road residents landed the cash when their postcode, DL12 8JZ, was drawn as the winner of Saturday's Street Prize.
One of the winners was Scott, who will be celebrating his 30th birthday next month. He was blown away when he discovered how much he had won. He said, "Oh my god, wow, this is just absolutely amazing! There's just so much that I can do with £30,000 and I'm not quite sure where to begin but I think a holiday with my other half and our little boy seems like a good place to start! I'll be treating the family and putting some away for a rainy day too. My advice to anyone thinking about playing would be sign up and join in because people that do play can win – I'm proof of that!"
Also picking up a prize was Tony, who was joined by wife Nini when the People's Postcode Lottery team appeared. Upon seeing how big the figure written on his cheque was, Tony said, "You have to be joking? What a welcome surprise!"
Tony and Nini have already started making plans as to how they will spend the cash. Tony said, "We can do so many things now that we've been meaning to get around to, like going on holiday and getting the house decorated – I'm over the moon!"
Nini added, "We know Scott from living on the street so it's great being able to win alongside him. I hope he'll enjoy the win as much as we will!"
Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt offered her congratulations and said, "I couldn't be more thrilled for Scott, Tony and our other winners in Barnard Castle! I've loved meeting them and I'm sure they'll have the best time spending the windfall! To be in with a chance of winning with your neighbours make sure you're signed up to play."
With 32% of the ticket price going to charity, players of People's Postcode Lottery have now raised £330 Million for over 4,000 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
One charity close to our winners that players have supported is Darlington Mind. The group received £18,399 last year to create a sensory garden for people living with dementia. This Street Prize was part of a draw promoted by charity Postcode Children Trust.
Barnard Castle wasn't the only area in luck, there were plenty of winners in Sunday's Street Prize too!
