Hooray For High Legh

16 July 2020 - WA16 0RZ - High Legh - £30,000
Judie with a £30,000 cheque for each of our winners in today's #30KADAY Street Prize

A nurse from High Legh is celebrating alongside his mum and their neighbour after discovering that they've each won an amazing £30,000 cheque. The lucky trio landed the windfall when WA16 0RZ was announced as the winner of today's #30KADAY Street Prize.

Over The Moon

Ashley discovered the good news when his mum, Lorraine, called him to let him know that golden envelopes had arrived for them both. Ashley, a community nurse, said, "I was in work when my mum rang me and I thought it was a scam. I was like, 'I bet you've not read it right' - I just couldn't believe it.

"I've been waiting to put a deposit down on a house, and it would've taken me years to save up so that's sorted now. I've never seen that much in my account ever. I think the bank could be ringing me up and saying something isn't right here! I'm chuffed I've finally got money and can start putting plans together."

It's thanks to Lorraine that Ashley won as it was she who encouraged him to sign up and play. Lorraine was also in a state of disbelief over their win and said, "I'm over the moon. This means a lot to me but I'm just so happy for Ashley.

"As a nurse, he's been in the midst of everything going on at the moment and as a mother I've been beside myself. He finished university two years ago and has worked so hard so I'm really pleased for him."

Lorraine, who works as a payroll administrator and has two other sons, also plans to put her win towards a new home. She said, "I'm in the stages of looking and viewing and thought it was going to be a grand and I could get carpets for my new house, but I'll be able to make a decision on one now."

Celebratory Coffee

The £30,000 cheque couldn't have come at a better time for winner Sam, a self-employed farrier. He said, "My wife Amber and I have a son, Harry, and we've a little girl on the way who is due in December so this has really, really helped.

"We're renting at the minute and squirrelling away money for a house deposit when we can and then this just comes along. It's a hell of a lot of money and has sped up the process no end. We can get a nice new family home now. When something positive hits you like this it's just really nice, and with everyone winning together it just picks everyone up."

Sam plans to celebrate his win in style. He joked, "I might go and treat myself to a nice Costa now!"

Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt spoke to our High Legh winners through a video call. She said, "I couldn't be happier for Ashley, Lorraine and Sam. It was really lovely to chat with them and hear how much of a difference this will have on their futures.

"And in the case of Ashley, it just goes to show that you should always listen to your mum!"

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted by Sightsavers, which has received over £3.9 Million thanks to player support. This funding is helping prevent sight loss and avoidable blindness in the world's poorest countries, treating conditions such as cataracts and fighting debilitating eye diseases.
