A Big Hand For Handsacre

15 April 2018 - WS15 4TQ - Handsacre - £30,000

Nine neighbours in Handsacre have netted a staggering £30,000 each thanks to their lucky postcode.

The Rowan Drive residents scooped the prize when their postcode, WS15 4TQ, was drawn as the winner of Sunday's Street Prize.

Emma, a clinical administrator and mum-of-two, said, "It's totally overwhelming to have won. It's such a fantastic amount of money and means so much to me and my family. Some of it will go towards making my son's seventh birthday that little bit more special and maybe a big family trip somewhere warm.

"I started playing People's Postcode Lottery just over a year ago because I know my money goes towards helping so many charities and their work."

Lady luck was on special educational needs teacher Margaret's side but not in the way she expected! She scooped the £30,000 whilst on a trip with friends to Las Vegas. Her husband Richard, a controls engineer, was on hand to collect the cheque. He said, "It's unbelievable – she went all the way to Las Vegas and won at home!

"It's a total shock. It means that we'll be able to put the winnings towards DIY projects that we've not been able to do up until now and maybe a special holiday abroad – we love spending time as a family in Ibiza."

Dave, another winner, said, "We've been playing for about three years and it's brilliant that such a significant amount has been raised for charity, while at the same time players have a real chance to win sums of money – it's a win-win result. To receive £30,000 is just incredible, it's a staggering amount to win. We have a lot of big birthdays coming up later this year, our twin boys turn 18 and it's also my 60th so lots to celebrate and now we can top it off with a family holiday to Dubai."

Pete, a systems manager with the NHS, signed up to play People's Postcode Lottery just four weeks ago. He said, "It's just amazing to win. Having just signed up to play I had absolutely no idea how much I might've won and this is more than I could have imagined, it's a gob-smacking amount of money. It couldn't have come at a better time; it will let me treat my 13-year-old daughter to some great trips away as well as put some aside for her future and also let me think about retiring a little earlier as well."

Colin, David, Natalie, and Dawn were among the remaining winners on the street.

Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier said, "It has been absolutely fantastic to present so many winners with their cheques. I love seeing neighbours winning together – it's what People's Postcode Lottery's all about."

With 32% of the ticket price going to charity, players of People's Postcode Lottery have now raised £291 Million for over 4,000 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.

One nearby charity that players have helped support is Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust. The group was awarded £18,500 last year to transform a large area of derelict land into a sustainable nature reserve.
