Street Prize

Congratulations South Croydon

09 November 2019 - CR2 0BJ - South Croydon - £30,000

It was a day to remember for five lucky South Croydon neighbours, as they each picked up £30,000 cheques. Our Mayfield Road winners landed the prizes when their postcode, CR2 0BJ, was announced as a winner in our Saturday Street Prize.

Shirley and husband Peter had not been expecting a visit. It was massive surprise when they saw the familiar Postcode Lottery red jackets outside their window, carrying a golden envelope for them.

Peter said, "You see it on the telly and you think how nice it would be if it was your front door, and today it was!"

Hitting The Road

Shirley and Peter are planning to spend the money on buying a new campervan to travel around the country.

Shirley said, "There are a lot of places nearby in England we haven't even seen so this will bring us a step closer. Of course, Christmas is coming up and the grandkids have a long list, so we can treat them which will be lovely."

Shirley signed up to play People's Postcode Lottery to support good causes close to home. She said, "I had a leaflet through the door and saw that a lot of local charities were supported, as well as having the chance to win, so I thought I'd go for it! Nobody knows when they might need help and that's when charities come into their own. Not everyone is lucky so it's good to give back."

An Unexpected Win

David was another one of the winning residents, and broke his losing streak of 44 years! David said, "It's the first time I've won something in 44 years – the last thing I won was a colouring competition when I was four!

"I'll treat my girls to Disneyland in a few years' time when they're a bit older, so we have that to look forward to. I can't think of anything else at the moment, but I'm sure my partner will have some more ideas once I tell her!"

Three other neighbours also each won the £30,000 prize. They were not available to receive their cheque in person, but the money will be paid directly into their bank account.

People's Postcode Lottery Ambassador Danyl Johnson presented the winners with their cheques. Danyl said, "A big congratulations to Shirley, David, and all our other winners in South Croydon today! I'm glad David has finally won something after 44 years, and I'm sure Shirley will have some exciting road trips ahead of her once she gets her new campervan."

Charities And Good Causes

Players aren't the only ones who benefit from People's Postcode Lottery. 32% of the ticket price goes to charities and good causes. Thanks to our players, over £486 Million has been raised for deserving projects around the world.

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted by PDSA, the UK's leading veterinary charity which offers free services to the sick and injured pets of people in need. Players have supported PDSA with more than £8.5 Million funding to date.

Local projects have benefited, too. Last year SLiDE received £500 for a half-term dance project aimed at young people, especially those with physical disabilities, who have not danced before.
