Two York residents are celebrating winning £30,000 each thanks to their lucky postcode!
The Carr Lane neighbours, who play with postcode YO26 5HU, won the second of this weekend's Street Prizes.
Garry Barker was speechless when he pulled the cheque out of the golden envelope. "I'm not one for being shy but when I saw all of those zeros, I was lost for words. My wife and I have loads of ideas about what we might do with the money. Once it's sunk in, we'll get thinking about it seriously but buying a property abroad has always been a dream of ours so this might turn into a deposit for an apartment in Spain or somewhere sunny.
"I really signed up knowing that the money raised goes to good causes, so this is an incredible bonus."
The other winner Joan Mackie was also shocked by her win. "I can't believe it. My daughter encouraged me to sign up after she's had a few small wins but I never expected to win so much. It's a great way to support charities at the same time as having a chance to win – Dogs Trust is particularly close to my heart so I'm very pleased that I support them by playing."
Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt said, "It was fantastic to meet Joan and Garry in York and to present them with their cheques. I really hope they enjoy their winnings."
A minimum of 30% of the ticket price goes directly to charities. To date, players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised more than £182 Million for good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
A project near our winners that has received support from players is Friends of St. Nicolas Fields, which was awarded £17,180 last year to develop a wetland site for the benefit of the community and local wildlife.
Garry and Joan were Sunday's big winners, but Joan in Leicester took home Saturday's £30,000 prize.
