An Isle of Wight resident who spends his year travelling the world has won £30,000 all thanks to a lucky postcode in his hometown. Cameron, who's a second officer aboard a superyacht, netted the windfall after PO35 5NT in Bembridge was announced as a winner of our Street Prize today.
A delighted Cameron found out how much he'd won during a video call with Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson. On seeing his prize cheque he exclaimed, "Wow! That's amazing. I'm lost for words."
Cameron immediately knew what to spend his winnings on. He said, "My long-term girlfriend. I think it's time to make her officially my wife!"
The couple have known each other from childhood, but now live on other sides of the world. He said, "She's American and in San Diego at the moment. We've been childhood friends since we were about eight years old. We spent about 15 years apart and met each other in 2018 again."
Due to his work, Cameron frequently needs to travel, but was thrilled that a postcode from his childhood home had brought him a prize. He said, "I grew up in the village, Bembridge has always been our home. I live just down the road from my childhood home so it's perfect for me."
Outside his proposal plans, Cameron wasn't sure how he'd spend the rest of his windfall, but did have one idea. He said, "I'm into cars, so maybe I'll get myself a new one."
Cameron said he'd also be celebrating his good fortune and exclaimed, "I'll definitely be having a few drinks tonight!"
Matt Johnson sent his well-wishes to Cameron. He said, "I'm so happy that the prize is going to go towards the future of Cameron's romance and help him propose.
"I'm delighted for Cameron and I hope he enjoys spending the win and treat himself with the prize money."
