Fun Times In Findochty

22 October 2020 - AB56 4QA - Findochty - £30,000
Today's #30KADAY £30,000 Street Prizes are heading to three lucky neighbours in Findochty

A grandad of two is among three lucky players from Findochty who have struck it rich today, all thanks to their postcode. Each of our winners scooped a £30,000 prize after AB56 4QA was drawn in our #30KADAY Street Prize

The Findochty neighbours won this prize as part of our special October campaign, where one postcode is announced as a £30,000 prize winner every day. All the players in that postcode win £30,000 for every ticket they hold!

Feeling Tickety-Boo

Delighted James, who retired from his job as a chef earlier this year, discovered how much he'd won during a video call with Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson. When his cheque was pulled from the envelope, James exclaimed, "Oh gee, £30,000! That makes me feel tickety-boo. I won £10 a few weeks ago and I was thinking that was my turn for another year so I'm shocked at this. I wasn't expecting that at all, it's blown me away. The blood pressure is up a wee bit!

"I've just retired so this means a lot. I retired because I wanted to spend more time with my wife, Barbara, and the family, and obviously we can't do much at this particular time but hopefully we'll be doing a wee bit of travelling once COVID is all past.

"This will go a long, long way to secure a lot of little treats with this sort of money. It's just terrific."

James' son already is already helping his dad with ideas for spending the windfall. James said, "I'm quite keen on my salmon fishing, and my son and I usually go to the River Spey for two weeks every year, so he's telling me I'm needing a new rod and he's wanting to help me pick it."

James is involved in the local community and is chairman of a community space where people take part in craftwork and conversation. He said, "I'm a chef by trade so I'm not really good with my hands but I can talk and I can sit and speak to someone or listen to what they have to say and that can mean a lot to someone.

"We can't meet right now but we're still working away behind the scenes. We started off last year with six people and now we've got 34 signed up members. It's very rewarding."

Asked how he'll celebrate his good fortune, James said, "We'll just be with the family. My daughter is allowed to visit because we look after the grandchildren, and my son, well, he'll just have to get a takeaway!"

Danyl Johnson sent his congratulations and said, "The weather might have been a bit wet in Findochty but it was my pleasure to spread a bit of sunshine by presenting James with a nice big cheque!

"It was fantastic to hear how this will help James enjoy his retirement with the family and I hope his neighbours are just as pleased as he was with their prize."

Millions For Good Causes

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted by Postcode Dream Trust, which is currently providing funding to charities helping society recover from the Coronavirus pandemic.

Local charities close to the winners have also benefited from player support, including Music 4 U. Earlier this year it was awarded £13,000 to help provide performing arts classes to people throughout Aberdeen, including those with additional support needs.

With People's Postcode Lottery, 32% of the ticket price goes to charities and good causes. To date, players have raised over £600 Million for more than 8,500 deserving projects across Great Britain as well as internationally.
