Lots Of Dough For Walthamstow
February 24th, 2018
Three neighbours from Walthamstow will be celebrating this weekend after scooping £30,000 cheques.
They picked up the prize after their postcode, E17 5SZ, was drawn as the winner of Saturday's Street Prize.
New mum Lomaiha is thrilled with her win. She said, "It hasn't sunk in yet – I'm still in shock! I'm going to have to think about how to spend it, but I have a one-year-old daughter and I'm not working at the moment so the money is going to be a massive help."
Rachel, who is a nurse, was also in shock when she was handed her cheque. She said, "I never expected this. It's a total surprise! I'm going to book a holiday to Africa to see my family and I'll have plenty left over to help my son who is at university.
"I signed up because of all the support that goes to charity. It's also really simple to play - once you set up your Direct Debit you don't need to worry about anything."
Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson presented the winners with their £30,000 cheques. He said, "I'm thrilled every time I get to knock on someone's door to tell them they've won, and I'm absolutely delighted for Rachel and Lomaiha. Neighbours winning together is what People's Postcode Lottery is all about."
To date, over £272 Million has been raised by players for more than 4,000 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
A local cause that players have supported is Social Ark CIC. The group received £2,000 in funding last year to deliver workshops to young people across East London on social entrepreneurship and how to build their own businesses.
