28 May - CV1 5HN - Coventry - £3 Million
Cracking Cash For Coventry
Two People's Postcode Lottery players from CV1 5HN have had their lives changed forever after winning big at our May Postcode Millions event in Coventry.
Last week, players living in postcode sector CV1 5 found out they were to share a massive £3 Million prize pot. Lucky winners were invited to attend a special ceremony at Coventry Cathedral Ruins to find out exactly how much they'd each won.
Former lorry driver, Donald Tennant, quit his job when he found out he would win a minimum of £4,000. Little did he know that he was in for a windfall of £184,059 for playing with the full winning postcode of CV1 5HN.
Donald, 64, said: “I really would never have believed in a million years I would win this kind of money. When I found out last week that I was winning at least £4,000, I packed in my job. I'm not far off retirement and with my savings, I knew that I could stop working for good.
“Now, I've won £184,059 I will be able to have a really nice retirement, give my children a nice life too. This is going to make the rest of my life."
Winner Jesica McBride, 21, has big dreams after her win of £184,059. The Fran Walsh House carer, who is expecting her first child in September, said: “I want to start a proper family. I live with my partner, Kieran, at his parents' home. Now we can think about buying our own house, and make it our first family home.
“I've been dreaming of decorating a nursery for our baby, and this win will now make that possible. I've also been dreaming of a certain pram but couldn’t quite justify it – and now I can!”
Not content with her new address, Jesica also has plans to move continents, saying: “We've spoken for a while about moving to Australia. With my work as a carer, and Kieran’s role as an electrician, we have skills that make the move a possibility. This win now allows us to seriously consider making the move.
“For now though – it's back to work tomorrow morning at 7am!”
A whopping 75 other lucky players from CV1 5 took home the remainder of the £3 Million prize pot with other cheques ranging from £7,000 to £75,000. The event was hosted by People's Postcode Lottery Ambassador Judie McCourt.
Judie said: “What an amazing day we’ve had at Coventry Cathedral Ruins. There are certainly lots of happy players going home tonight with massive smiles on their faces. Congratulations to all the lucky winners!”
With a minimum of 27.5% going to good causes across Great Britain and internationally, players of People's Postcode Lottery have so far raised over £118 Million for charities.
Good causes in Coventry that have benefitted from support by players of People's Postcode Lottery include The Boxing Clever Academy. Earlier this year, they received £1,450 for the Boxing Clever Project. This exciting programme aims to give young people the opportunity to develop their fitness, self-esteem and confidence.
There were a wealth of big winners this weekend, with Street Prizes coming to Wellingborough and Cannock, Dream Holidays being scooped in Thatcham and £5,000 and a BMW won in Englefield Green. Congratulations to all our lucky winners!
