Hemlington Highlight

30 December 2020 - TS8 9SA - Hemlington - £50,000
Matt has a whopping cheque for lucky Hemlington players

A grandmother of five and a construction worker are among six neighbours from Hemlington who have won £50,000 today when their postcode, TS8 9SA, was revealed as our latest Street Prize winner.

Jean was in a state of shock when she found out how much she'd won. She received the good news over a video call with People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Matt Johnson.

Off To Benidorm

Jean said, "I don't know what to say, I'm shaking now. I never expected that amount. I don't know what to think, I don't know what to say. This is my first ever Zoom call - can they all to be like this?!"

With two children and five grandchildren, Jean plans to share the good fortune amongst her family.

Jean said, "I’ll be helping my family out, they've just bought houses and they're renovating. I'll hopefully take my husband, Paul, away somewhere nice too".

Jean and Paul have been married for 43 years. Jean says she might take him back to one of their favourite holiday spots, "We used to go to Benidorm twice a year when he was working but he has Alzheimer's and he's not very good but he still likes to get out and about."

Mortgage Free

Robbie was on a break from his work as a construction worker when he found out how much he'd won.

Seeing the figure written on his cheque, he exclaimed, "Woah, wow. That's absolutely brilliant. I thought it would be £1,000 and was thinking anything over that would be a bonus, so that's a big bonus!

"I think if my wife Jen was here I'd her ask to pinch me to make sure I'm not dreaming. We've got seven children between us so this will help us out a great deal. We'll be able to be pretty much mortgage free."

Asked why he signed up to play Robbie said, "I seen it on the telly and thought someone's got to win and look what's happened! I think I'll be going down the shop to get a nice bottle of champagne on my way home from work to be honest."

The neighbours won the prize as part of People's Postcode Lottery's special Christmas #50KADAY campaign. Every day, one postcode is announced as a £50,000 prize winner. All the players in that lucky postcode pick up £50,000 for every ticket they play with.

People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Matt Johnson said, "2020 has been a difficult year for everyone so it was my pleasure to deliver some good news to Jean and Robbie. I'm delighted that they'll be going into the new year £50,000 better off and I'm sure their neighbours will be just as chuffed as they are with the prize!"
