Hull Shares Postcode Millions Prize

February Postcode Millions 2013

It's certainly never dull in Hull - something Hull resident, Elaine Lamping, can testify to. The local nurse won a "dream come true" £400,000 when HU1 3AH was revealed as the winning postcode in our Postcode Millions.

Elaine, 51, from Dock Street, says she will be using the winnings to help with her eldest son's up-coming wedding and to pay for her younger son's postgraduate degree fees.

Mrs Lamping has been working as a Community Respiratory Nurse for 30 years. Her job sees her travel across the region to provide support to patients that have respiratory difficulties and are unable to leave their homes.

"This is just something you dream about isn't it?", said Elaine. "Whilst we were waiting for the event to get started, we were stood trying to guess how much we could have won. And I can tell you now, none of us came even close to guessing £400,000.

"You play for the dream, the dream of winning such an amazing amount, but you never think that dream will come true. We're going to help our son and his fiancé with their wedding in June - there's not much left to organise, but I'm sure there are a few extra treats we can think of."

Elaine's 51 year-old husband, Jon, who works as an office manager in the winning HU1 postcode area, was also there at the event. Also in attendance were the couple's two sons, Josh, 27, and Tom, 25, and their soon to be daughter-in-law and Josh's fiancé, Becky Wealsby.

Andrew Lamb, 28, from Owbridge Court was another local resident to win £141,180. Playing with three tickets, the local bus driver already plans to use his winnings to buy a house for him and his partner, Sammy, as well as the couple's three children, aged six, three and 10 months old. Andrew was also joined at the event by his father Derek and mother, Mary.

"We're really not sure what to spend the money on," said Andrew. "It hasn't sunk in yet. But this kind of money just gives you peace of mind more than anything. We're currently renting a house here in Hull, but it would be great to buy something on the outskirts for the family."

One winner who won £94,120 also won the keys to a brand new BMW 1 Series. Fellow players in the Hull HU1 postcode area also walked away from the event at Hull City Hall with cheques for £47,060, £94,120 and £141,180.

Yet, it's not just players who win. Players have raised over £23.2 Million for good causes to date, including Missing People and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, which both operate in the local area. The charities have received over £1.7 Million and £316,000 to date respectively. This funding supports the fantastic work they do every single day.

Local councillor, Nadine Fudge, whose son went missing over 20 years ago after a Christmas party in Liverpool, showed her support for the funding raised by players of the charity lottery.

"Missing People is a charity that is very close to my heart. Thanks for all they have done to search for Phillip, and I am very grateful to players of People's Postcode Lottery for their ongoing support of this vital charity."

Funding from players of the Lottery also supports a variety of good causes all over the country, including fantastic grass-roots projects on the doorstep of the lucky Hull players themselves. Over £23,000 has been awarded by People's Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by the players, to great local projects.

Incredible Edible Withernsea is just one of the local projects to have been supported by funding from People's Postcode Trust. Run by Southern Holderness Resource Centre, they received over £9,000 to develop a community vegetable garden and Grow Your Own project to encourage local residents to appreciate the benefits of growing their own.
