Postcode Millions

Alloa Bonanza

02 December 2023 - FK10 3GN - Alloa - £3.2 Million

Over 470 people in Alloa are celebrating after their postcode area, FK10 3, shared a £3.2 Million prize in November's Postcode Millions.

A dozen residents in Fishcross landed the biggest prizes after their postcode - FK10 3GN - was announced as the full winning postcode. One player with two tickets bagged a whopping £246,152 and eleven others on Gannel Hill View have each netted £123,076 cheques.

Most Win-Derful Time

£123,076-winner Duncan had another reason to celebrate this Christmas after receiving the all-clear from a two-year cancer battle. The delighted dad, of Fishcross, Clackmannanshire, said, "It's truly magical for us to win this money. I still can't believe it, it's like I'm in a dream.

"We've had a really dramatic time of it. When you get told you've got bowel cancer and now to go from one extreme to another, it's just amazing."

The grandad-of-two was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2021 and since then has undergone several rounds of chemotherapy and two major surgeries to remove the tumour.

Duncan's wife, Alison, said, "After the last few years, to come through the other side and to get this, it's just like 'Listen guys, everything is going to be okay now, let's just have fun!' And that's what we're going to do."

Now plans for Duncan's 60th birthday have ramped up after his bumper win. The couple had already booked up to go to Turkey but will quickly upgrade their holiday package. Son Ryan, daughter-in-law Laura, and granddaughters Sophie and Lucy will also be joining them.

Duncan said, "It'll be 5-star now. We'll be back on the internet upgrading tonight and I'll be having the best party ever."

He laughingly added, "I was never expecting to be so wealthy at 60. It's nice to say you've got some money in the bank."

Duncan, who has worked at the same BMW dealership in Stirling for over 43 years, from an apprentice technician to his current role as a customer services manager, is also planning a bucket-list holiday to Canada as part of the couple's 36th wedding anniversary celebrations.

He said, "I've always wanted to see the Niagara Falls - you see it on the telly, and it looks pretty spectacular. Now it's a place we can visit."

The couple, who plan to give their grandkids "the best Christmas ever" found out how much they'd won in their garden as the snow fell.

Alison, who works as a Wedding and Events Manager at Inglewood House & Spa in Alloa, said, "We woke up and it was like Christmas morning. The snow was coming down and we were all giddy with excitement.

"To then see the whole Postcode Lottery team in red with cameras going down our street was quite surreal."

Big Family Christmas

Across the road neighbours Margo and Vince also had plenty to celebrate as they each held winning tickets.

The foster carers described winning a combined £246,152 as "a miracle" and plan on fulfilling their road-trip dreams.

Margo said, "It is a miracle. Us, winning something, it is a Christmas miracle."

Vince added, "It's nuts, totally nuts! You never know when your luck will change because it's the first time in our life that we've won something."

The couple has five children - all in their twenties - and are currently fostering four children aged from 6 up to 15 years old. And now they're planning an even bigger Christmas for their clan.

Margo said, "With our big family, Christmas is always special, but this year will be amazing."

Also making up their big family are their six pet dogs which include three Labradoodles, a Chihuahua and a Cockapoo.

Vince, who worked as a driver for Clackmannanshire Council, recently retired due to ill health.

He said, "I took retirement early to look after my health after suffering from long COVID for nearly three years. I'm coming to the other end now and I'll be able to really enjoy this."

They've always had a dream of touring Europe in a motorhome and those dreams could now be a reality.

Margo said, "We've always wanted to buy a motorhome and have the freedom to explore Europe and we've always held on to the hope that one day that could happen."

Vince added, "It's amazing to know we can now tour Europe and beyond - obviously once the family is all settled."

Before they start looking at motorhomes, Margo said 'Car Man' Vince has his eyes set on a new 4x4 vehicle.

Vince said, "I can't lie, I'd like to buy a top-spec Land Rover Discovery, but Margo is in charge of the purse strings, so we'll wait and see."

Cash In Clacks

The 467 remaining players in the area received cheques ranging from £3,024 to £9,072, depending on the number of tickets they played with.

Hundreds of winners braved the snow and freezing temperatures at Sterling Mills Shopping Outlet to find out how much they'd won.

People's Postcode Lottery Presenters Jeff Brazier and Danyl Johnson were on hand to surprise the lucky locals with their golden envelopes.

Jeff said, "I loved every second of my time in a snowy Clackmannanshire, surprising hundreds of our players with thousands of pounds."

Danyl added, "Congratulations to all the winners! I'm sure they'll be celebrating all the way into 2024."

Local good causes have also benefited from player support. In 2022, Clackmannanshire Economic Regeneration Trust (SCIO) was awarded £24,430 to support struggling people in the county. The charity supports those who are economically inactive and unemployed to start a process towards employment. This includes health and wellbeing activities, work placements, debt advice, literacy support and a range of training courses.
