Spending Spree for Dundee
Delighted Dundee neighbours had a great weekend after their postcode, DD3 7HB, was drawn as a Street Prize winner.
June Neil was joined by her husband, Joe, when she was presented with her £60,000 cheque by Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson.
"My wife had a stroke three years ago today – it's nice to have something positive associated to the date," explained Joe. "We want to redecorate the whole house. Our dog ruined the leather suite so we can replace that and maybe get some furniture to match."
June who plays with two tickets, found out about People's Postcode Lottery through the player-supported cancer charity, Maggie's, and decided to play. Maggie's have been awarded £6,821,571 from players to date.
"When June had cancer, we used the services at Maggies – they are a great charity. When we found out players had awarded them so much money, we thought it was a no-brainer to sign up ourselves."
June and Joe's neighbour, Nancy Chmielewska, was equally thrilled when she received her £30,000 cheque from Danyl. "I had so much fun with the team from People's Postcode Lottery – I'm still on a high. We had a really great time and we were dancing in the street with Danyl. It was fantastic."
Nancy, who has only been playing for one month, knows exactly how she would like to spend the money. "I have two grandchildren and six great children so it will be going on them," she said. "I've also always wanted to visit Poland as that's where my father-in-law was from. I've decided to go in September with my friend."
Ina Breen had just celebrated her 81st birthday and was over the moon with her £30,000 win. "I've never had so much money in my life," she said.
Ina, who signed up to support charities, will be sharing the win equally with her two sons.
There were two other players in the postcode who won £30,000 each. The winners were not available to receive their cheques, but their winnings will be transferred directly into their bank accounts.
Danyl Johnston said, "I had such a great time meeting the three ladies in Dundee! All three of them were delighted to see me and we had fun dancing around the street. I hope they all enjoy spending their winnings."
To date, players have raised over £175 Million for over 2,800 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
A project in Dundee that has received support from players is Tayside Council on Alcohol, which was awarded £8,500 last year to fund a community therapeutic space.
Dundee wasn't the only lucky area this weekend, as the first £30,000 Street Prize was scooped by Harlow players.
