Street Prize
Cash Win For Cardiff
Two players in Cardiff are celebrating this week after their postcode, CF5 4JU, was drawn as Saturday's Street Prize winner. One Moore Close resident landed £30,000, while the other, who plays with two tickets, doubled their win to a whopping £60,000.
Jeff Wisden was joined by his wife Val and three daughters Maxine, Melissa and Jessica when he was presented with his cheque. He said, "I've been playing for around four years and have had a few £10 wins and a £20 in that time. So when I found out I was a winner, it came as a total surprise to me! I'll share the majority of the money with family but I'll treat myself to a new car and there's some DIY around the house that can now be done by someone else."
Stephen Hood, who only started playing in August, said, "This must be some kind of record, and when I found out I'd won, I almost had a heart attack. I don't need a lot of money so I'm happy for it to go to my children and grandchildren, and I'll definitely keep playing – even if I never win again. I'm happy that the money is going to charity, at least that way someone is winning."
Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson said, "It was fantastic to meet Jeff and Stephen today and to surprise them with their cheques. I hope they all enjoy spending their winnings and treat themselves to something special."
A minimum of 31% of the ticket price goes to good causes. To date, over £229 Million has been raised by players for charities across Great Britain and internationally.
A local cause that has received support from players is Grow Cardiff. The charity was awarded £9,750 this year to support local groups in creating and sustaining shared growing spaces for all ages to promote health, wellbeing and education.
There were also celebrations in Leeds as two players scooped £30,000 prizes thanks to their lucky postcode.
