Surprise Treat For St. Thomas
Christmas spirits are soaring in Swansea after six St. Thomas residents scooped today's Street Prize. The lucky neighbours on St Illtyd's Crescent found out their postcode SA1 8HR was a winner when presenter Matt Johnson knocked on their doors with some golden envelopes.
Five people living on the street have won £30,000 each. Another neighbour will take home a staggering £60,000, doubling her prize as she plays with two tickets. Each day of December's draws every player in one lucky postcode takes home a cheque for £30,000 for each ticket they play with.
Josette, a Social Worker, scooped £60,000 declaring that the win had opened up 'a whole new world'. She said, "There are some things around the house that need to get done. And it's just nice to have that little bit of security so I don't need to worry about money.
"I'll have to do something nice for myself of course. It'd be good to go away for a little bit and I'm really fond of the Caribbean so maybe I'll go there. I'll probably do a little bit of shopping before Christmas too."
Sonia was waiting on her knock at the door from Matt with some of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were all excited to see what she'd won. After discovering her £30,000 win, Sonia insisted it's a win for her whole family. She said, "I'm going to split this with my three children and give a little something to my grandchildren and great-grandchildren too.
"I've done a lot of travelling over the years, but I think the children would want me to go on a cruise and change my car. We've only got one life so I'm going to enjoy this."
Steel Worker Steven also received a cheque for £30,000. Commenting on his win he said, "I've been working at Tata Steel as a machine operator for more than 12 years and I know everyone will be pleased for me. We're a close knit bunch of workers."
Steven's wife Jo was at work when Matt came calling so he had to tell her about the win over the phone. He added, "This means so much for my family. We're planning a big holiday to Florida next year and we'd been saving hard for it. Now with this money, I'll be able to pay for a superb holiday. This really is an early Christmas present for us."
People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Matt Johnson said, "It's always a pleasure for me to be back in Wales and our winners in Swansea have been delightful. We'll be spreading Christmas cheer to even more winners this December, and who knows maybe next time I'll be knocking on your door."
With 32% of the ticket price going to charities, our players have raised a staggering £371 Million for good causes. This prize was part of a draw promoted by the Royal National Institute of Blind People.
Many charities close to our winners have received the support of players, including She Can Consultancy. The group was awarded £2,000 to run a project supporting vulnerable young mums, with a focus on career development, financial management and emotional wellbeing.
In 2019, £150 Million in Prizes will be won by our players. If you're not playing, then check out How It Works for more information. If you want to join in the fun, sign up today! With a bit of luck, you too could be picking up an amazing cheque!
