A Toast For Arbroath

22 May 2022 - DD11 1TR - Arbroath - £30,000

Fortune has smiled on a postcode in Arbroath today. Six neighbours each scooped a fabulous £30,000 cheque after their postcode, DD11 1TR, was drawn as our Sunday Street Prize winner.

Presenter Jeff Brazier visited Arbroath to meet some of our lucky players.

Couldn't Be Happier

Textile worker Jamie got the surprise of his life when he received a knock on his door after thinking an e-mail from us was too good to be true. He said, "I ignored an e-mail I got from Postcode Lottery telling me I'd won because I thought it wasn't real. When I got the chap at my door I started shaking and my mouth went completely dry. It's been the best surprise ever.

"This changes everything for me and my family.

"I want a new kitchen, to do up the house a bit and go on a once-in-a-lifetime holiday, maybe two once-in-a-lifetime holidays!

"I've wanted to go to Disney World in Florida since I was ten years old and it'd be pretty incredible to take my nine-year-old son and my partner, Leanne.

"I could not be happier right now. I don't have words to describe how I'm feeling. It's brilliant news for the street."

Perfect Timing

Computing teacher Christine also scooped a five-figure sum. She pumped her fist and exclaimed, "Yes!" as she pulled her cheque out of its golden envelope.

The mum-of-two is set to marry fiance Rob in July and plans to put her winnings towards the wedding. She said, "As soon as end-of-term happens, we're flying to Chicago, grabbing some Harley Davidsons and doing Route 66 past Vegas. We thought while we're there we might as well get married by Elvis.

"This couldn't have come at a more perfect time! It's all a bit crazy but I'm dead happy."

A Big, Big Surprise

Winner Moira was joined by Hugh, her husband of 55 years, when Jeff revealed her £30,000 prize. On seeing her cheque, the grandmother-of-three said, "My knees are going. I can't keep this smile from my face. What a day!

"It's a big, big surprise. I never expected to win that amount of money ever."

Moira, a retired legal secretary who has lived at the winning postcode for 50 years, has a few plans for her windfall. She explained, "We might go to Australia to see our son and granddaughters. We haven't seen them for three years because of COVID. Our daughter and grandson who stay nearby will come in for a treat or two as well. It'll be fun spending it and treating people."

Family Holiday

Also winning was Graeme, a chef, who was joined by his partner Jenna, mum Iona and brother Mark when he got the good news. He plans to take them all on holiday. He said, "We'll probably go somewhere like Mexico or Thailand. It's unbelievable.

"We'll crack open a bottle of champagne and have a few glasses to celebrate later."

Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier said, "I've had a lot of fun in Arbroath knocking doors, ringing bells and surprising our winners with lovely big cheques. It was a pleasure to meet Jamie, Christine, Moira and Graeme and it sounds like they're all going to have a lot of fun with their winnings!"

Good Causes Everywhere

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted by Postcode International Trust, which provides regular grant funding to organisations that work to alleviate poverty, hunger and enable food security. Supported charities include Action Against Hunger, ActionAid and British Red Cross.

With 33% of the ticket price going to charities and good causes, players of People's Postcode Lottery have now raised more than £900 Million for over 9,000 projects and groups across the world.

Fantastic Prizes are announced every single day! It couldn't be easier to sign up - it only takes two minutes, and it might be the best decision you ever make. If you're not sure how to play, you can learn more about us in our How It Works guide.
