This weekend saw hundreds of Mansfield residents celebrate a cash windfall. A total of 871 winners from NG19 6 postcodes scooped a share of August's Postcode Millions £3 Million prize.
The full winning postcode, NG19 6QQ, saw 12 neighbours secure the largest share of the prize money, each pocketing a cheque for £125,000.
Margaret B, one of the big winners, said, "I'm absolutely thrilled to have won, I feel as if I'm on cloud nine and I'm not sure I'll come down anytime soon. I thought it'd be tuppence and a button, I never expected such a big amount and I'll definitely enjoy spending it. I've lived in my house for 60 years so home improvements will be at the top of my list. I have 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren so I'll be able to treat them and we'll have a big family get-together to celebrate this fantastic news."
Margaret's next door neighbour also scooped the top prize. Lesley, who signed up to play just over a year ago, said, "It's an unbelievable feeling to win and winning with neighbours and as part of a community makes it that little bit more special. This win means that I'll be able to retire from work and hopefully plan a few holidays away with my family and grandchildren. We love to travel throughout Scotland so now we'll be able to buy a campervan and go touring."
Alan was also among those picking up a prize. He was joined by wife Lisa when he discovered how much he had won. He said, "I'm flabbergasted to say the least and feel on top of the world. Myself and Lisa are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary on the 5th September so we'll be having a double celebration now!"
The prize was beyond the wildest dreams of local business owner Margaret E, who was joined by her partner Rob and daughter Kimberley as she received her cheque. She said, "Kimberley gave birth to my 11th grandchild just 18 days ago and he's currently in the special care baby unit as he's been poorly. We're hopeful that he'll be getting out today so it's been an unbelievable weekend of the most amazing news!"
Local nurse Lisa signed up because of all the charities she knew she'd be helping to support by playing. Lisa loved winning with her neighbours, and said, "It's great that this is bringing the whole street together. I'm sure we'll be having a party and congratulating each other in the coming days and weeks!"
Other lucky winners on neighbouring streets each scooped between £1,632 and £6,528 in prize winnings.
This is the second time that Mansfield has been home to a winning postcode sector. In July 2016, there were 376 Postcode Millions winners from NG18 3 postcodes. This lucky streak extended to a player who was not only a 2016 winner, but also collected a cash boost this time round too after moving house!
People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Danyl Johnson said, "It's always brilliant to meet our players, present them with their cheques and find out how much their win means to them. This time it was doubly special as Postcode Millions brought us back to Mansfield for a second time! I'm sure they will all enjoy spending their winnings – congratulations again to all of our lucky Mansfield winners from NG19 6 postcodes."
32% of the ticket price goes to charity, and so far players have raised over £330 Million for good causes. This prize was part of a draw promoted by Postcode Animal Trust.
Funding from players of People's Postcode Lottery has helped support a number of local good causes in and around Nottinghamshire. These include The Youth Zone Project, which received £11,487 to fund their Mansfield Life Skills initiative. The project supports young homeless people and helps them to develop skills through creative and outdoor educational activities.
