Money For Middleton St George

22 July 2018 - DL2 1LD - Middleton St George - £30,000

A lucky Middleton St George player has picked up a whopping cheque for £30,000 after her postcode was drawn as Sunday's Street Prize winner.

Jean found out her postcode, DL2 1LD, had won her the cash when Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt turned up at her door with a golden envelope in hand. Jean said, "This has really made my day and given me an experience I'll never forget! I have only just retired after spending over 37 years working as a lunchtime supervisor at the local school – I can't think of a better way to start off my retirement than getting a cheque for £30,000!"

The win is a bittersweet moment for Jean who originally signed up to play with her late husband Kevin, who passed away from cancer three years ago. She also recently lost her sister to the same illness. Jean said, "I've had a tough couple of years so it's really lovely to get some positive news and everyone is thrilled for me, including my two children and my partner Frank."

On thinking about how she'll spend her windfall, Jean said, "Frank rides a motorbike and since meeting him it's become a passion of mine too, but I've not got my own leathers, so I'll definitely be treating myself to those. We'll be celebrating later with a motorbike ride around the beautiful countryside!"

Judie offered her congratulations and said, "I couldn't be more thrilled for Jean - is there anything better than winning £30,000 two days into your retirement? I'm sure she'll have an absolute ball spending her prize."

With 32% of the ticket price going to charity, players of People's Postcode Lottery have now raised £320 Million for over 4,000 good causes across Great Britain and internationally. This prize is part of a draw promoted by Postcode Heroes Trust.

One charity close to the winners that players have helped to support is Darlington Mind, which was awarded £18,399 last year to create a stimulating sensory garden for people living with dementia.
