Party In Derby
With £30,000 Street Prizes announced every day in July's draws, it's a whirlwind of golden envelopes and life-changing cheques. Today's prize is headed to Derby and lucky postcode DE23 8FQ.
Our only winner, Ganesh, who works in IT and volunteers with local charities, said, "I'm in shock! This is unbelievable. I was dreaming for it, but I was not expecting it at all.
"I want to buy a house and this money will help me to do that. I've been living in this rented house for a long time, and now I want to move into my own house.
"It's amazing that I've won with my postcode - this is my home and where I want to continue living."
Ganesh, originally from India, also plans with his windfall to support people from the village in which he grew up. He said, "I want to do something for my village back in India. I had already been looking into organising a garden to be built for the primary school, and now I'll be able to give that the go-ahead."
Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt was in Derby to meet our winner. She said, "Congratulations to Ganesh! I am so delighted that he'll now be able to buy a house of his own, and I think the postcode will feel extra special to him after bringing him this win."
Supporting Good Causes
With 32% of the ticket price going to charities and good causes, players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised over £450 Million for deserving causes and projects across Great Britain and around the world. Our players are making a difference every day for a wide range of amazing organisations.
Today's prize is part of a draw promoted by Postcode Support Trust. Established in 2015, this Trust provides funding to charities and good causes across Britain that are supporting older people to participate fully in their community, helping them to live happy and more fulfilled lives.
One project near the winning postcode that has been supported by players is Attenborough Nature Reserve, which is managed by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. The reserve is an important environmental area and is best known for its birds. The Postcode Lottery team visited the site after presenting Ganesh with his prize. Judie said, "It's incredible to see that as we go up and down the country delivering cheques, there are also amazing causes being supported everywhere we go thanks to players like Ganesh."
