Street Prize

Stoked In Stoke Gabriel

09 June 2019 - TQ9 6RX - Stoke Gabriel - £30,000

Today three people from Stoke Gabriel are each £30,000 better off thanks to their lucky postcode. The Darton Grove neighbours netted the cheques when TQ9 6RX was drawn in Sunday's Street Prize

Royal Navy veteran Richard was over the moon with his prize. He exclaimed, "My tummy was a bit trembly beforehand, but when you see £30,000 pop out of an envelope it's pretty cool. I only wish I could get to do it every day!"

Richard was joined by his wife of 45 years, Jackie, when he received his cheque. With them both being keen sailors, Richard is contemplating using the windfall to purchase a new boat. He said, "I spent a few years in the Royal Navy and then met Jackie, who was a national champion in dingy sailing, through our local yacht club, so sailing is a real passion for us both. Our current boat, which we've sailed around the Mediterranean in twice, is 40 years old so now I have the perfect excuse to upgrade it!"

Before he embarks on his shopping trip for some new sails, Richard plans to celebrate with Jackie and a few close friends. He said, "I think I will toast my good fortune by having some friends over for a bit of an impromptu party with wine, cheese and some of Jackie's quiche. It's been a wonderful experience so far and will make a big difference to our lives."

While the two remaining two winners couldn't be there to collect their cheques in person, their prize money will be paid directly into their bank accounts.

Presenting Richard with his prize was Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson. He said, "It was my absolute pleasure to meet Richard and Jackie and I couldn't be more thrilled for them and our other winners in Stoke Gabriel. I'll be patiently waiting on my invite to join in their celebrations so I can enjoy some of Jackie's quiche."

Deserving Projects Everywhere

Players aren't the only ones who benefit from People's Postcode Lottery. At least 32% of the ticket price goes to charities and good causes. Thanks to players, over £438 Million has been raised for deserving projects across the world.

This draw was promoted on behalf of Royal Voluntary Service, which has received over £9 Million in funding thanks to players. This vital support helps the organisation recruit more volunteers and reach thousands more older people through home visits and social groups across Great Britain.

Good causes close to the winners have also been supported thanks to the funding that has been raised by players. Last year, YMCA South Devon was awarded £8,800 to deliver a training programme to team members so that it can provide the best support possible to young children and women who have experienced domestic abuse.
