Street Prize
Brilliant Day For Bristol
Christmas has come early for eight neighbours in Bristol after their postcode, BS14 0SL, came up trumps and was announced as a Street Prize winner.
Thanks to the win, seven of the Mile Walk winners have picked up £30,000 each, while the eighth winner netted an incredible £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets.
Scooping the cash just three days before Christmas was made all the more special for George, who was sharing the winning experience with one of his best friends of 30 years, Ian.
Fabricator welder George said, "When I first signed up to play I said to my wife Leisa 'I'm going to win that £30,000 prize' and that's exactly what I've done and I'm over the moon. I've got 5 children and 6 grandchildren, with the youngest just coming along just 7 weeks ago, so I'll be sharing it out with them and we'll be having a very nice Christmas indeed! I think I'll treat the whole family to a holiday in Cyprus or Mallorca in 2019 too.
"I had no idea Ian even played, but both our families are really close and we're both godparents to each other's children so winning together has made this all the better. Needless to say we'll be celebrating with a big party together later on!"
Ian was with his wife Caroline when he got the knock on his door from the People's Postcode Lottery team. He said, "I signed up to play because George did – it's definitely been a good decision! In the next few years I'll be turning 50, Caroline and myself will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and our two kids will be 18 and 21. We've not been away as a family in years so we'll be able to have a holiday to remember now!"
Paula was joined by her husband Dean when she received her prize. The mum, who works in HR for B&Q, screamed in delight as her cheque came out of the golden envelope. She said, "I'm unbelievably happy right now. This just means so much to us. I'm going to spend, spend, spend and have an amazing Christmas and we'll be starting 2019 in the best possible way!"
Jaqueline and Michael were also among the Mile Walk winners, with Michael commenting, "This has really made my Christmas, so thank you ever so much."
People's Postcode Lottery Presenters Judie McCourt and Danyl Johnson were in Bristol delivering the golden envelopes. Danyl said, "It's been amazing to spread lots of festive cheer in our red jackets to our Mile Walk winners. It sounds like they'll all be having a Christmas to remember and I hope they enjoy spoiling themselves and their families."
With 32% of the ticket price going to charities, our generous players have raised a staggering £371 Million for good causes. This prize was part of a draw promoted by Postcode Sport Trust.
One good cause close to our winners that players have supported is Southern Brooks Community Partnerships. The group was awarded £9,678 last year to transform an unused space into a vibrant community garden.
