Postcode Millions Delight For Port Talbot
Three Port Talbot neighbours from Sandfields have shared a life-changing £1 Million in our April Postcode Millions. The trio scooped half of the town's £2 Million Postcode Millions cash windfall.
Peter "Brummie" Summers, 53, a manager at local Port Talbot transport firm, Doyle Transport, scooped £500,000. Having played People's Postcode Lottery for just six months with two tickets, the father of six and grandfather of 13 was left jumping for joy when it was revealed that SA12 7RT was the full winning postcode. Peter, originally from Birmingham, and his wife Pam, 49, a local receptionist, were absolutely overwhelmed at the winning amount.
"It was the love of a great woman that brought us to Port Talbot and this has changed our lives - Port Talbot has been such a great place for us and now we've just won £500,000 with our postcode,” said Peter. "I can't believe it, we never win anything, but you honestly have to be in it don't you?"
"I love my job, I love working with my boss," continued Peter. "This cheque will just make life so much easier. I have all of my children and grandchildren to spoil and it's Pam's 50th birthday next year. I'm sure we'll be having a great birthday party for her now. We've been wanting to go back to India as well, but it's just something we never thought we could do - it's such a big expense. This is unbelievable!"
Peter's two neighbours, Jeff Davies, 52, and Sarah Edwards, 47, each picked up cheques for £250,000. Until today, they didn't even know that their neighbours played People's Postcode Lottery as well.
Sarah moved to Port Talbot only 11 months ago and has only been playing People's Postcode Lottery for three months. Her husband, Gary, 50, a local Unit Operator is originally from Port Talbot and is the reason why the couple and their four children moved back to the area. Sarah, who is currently holding down four jobs as a kitchen assistant, couldn't explain what a difference their £250,000 win will make to the family.
"We work hard and never get a break, this win is just unbelievable, I can't explain what a difference it will make," said Sarah. "It means we can pay off the mortgage and will just ease the general day to day worries. I really want to take our two grandchildren, they're four and two years old, to Florida so that they can go to Disney World."
Holidays and Florida are what third neighbour, Jeff, a local steel worker and his wife Rosemary, 52, local shop assistant, have planned as well. "We've been to Tampa Bay before and it would be amazing if we could go back there together. We've only been playing for 11 months, it's just a great win."
Rachel Elias, supporter of Missing People, a charity which has received over £1.8 Million in support from players, was delighted to attend the event held at Hollywood Park.
"I had the privilege of going along to the Port Talbot Postcode Millions last year and it was a real pleasure to see so many people's lives changing for the better, right in front of me," said Rachel. "Players of People's Postcode Lottery provide so much support for charities like Missing People, and those vital funds serve to help anyone affected by a disappearance. It really is thanks to these players that Missing People can make such a huge difference."
Peter, Sarah and Jeff were joined by a further 305 winners, who picked up cheques ranging from £715 to £8,580.
This is the second win for Port Talbot in 12 months. Last year, residents of SA12 6 shared £2 Million.
