£1 Million Prize

Seaton Burn Millionaire Street

05 August 2023 - NE13 6DU - Seaton Burn - £1 Million

A beer buff is bursting with hoppiness after winning a whopping £285,714. Stunned Anthony raised a glass when People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Matt Johnson revealed his cheque.

Now the Newcastle Beer and Cider Festival organiser will be saying "wish you were beer" as he plans a swanky holiday with his badminton coach partner Sarah.

Lost For Words

Software engineer Anthony exclaimed, "Wowsers! I don't have words. I was only expecting £10 or probably £20. I wasn't expecting such a large number."

He added, "Mind you, I did see the neighbours cleaning their doors ready for the knock."

Anthony was one of six neighbours in a neat little cul-de-sac in Seaton Burn, near Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, to share a £1 Million prize in our weekly Millionaire Street event. Every ticket in the winning postcode, NE13 6DU, bagged £142,857 - but Anthony doubled his windfall to £285,714 by playing with two tickets.

The Labour councillor said, "We'll definitely go on holiday and treat ourselves more than just scrimping and saving. But the first thing I want to do is get the garden done."

He added, "When I got a new house I wanted to get a Postcode Lottery ticket for this address. I like the Postcode Lottery because every day the money is going to various charities, right across the whole country as well as the local area.

"It's a really good win-win situation for the players - and the charities get what they need with prices rising all over the place."

Anthony has headed up the drinks festival for five years now, showcasing ales and ciders from the local area and further afield, but he already knows he won't be turning Millionaire Street into MillionALE Street. At £100 for a nine-gallon keg, that would buy him almost 3,000 barrels holding more than 25,000 gallons. But it's got to be downed within seven days. Anthony laughed, "I don't think I'd survive having to drink that much within a week!"

It's Real!

Across the road another winner, Mark, thought it was a scam when we tried to call him, so he blocked our number! The car mechanic only believed it was true when his wife Kay ordered him to come back from his work to get his prize.

Dad-of-one Mark and car finance worker Kay broke down when they pulled a cheque for £142,857 from Matt's golden envelope.

Now Mark's planning a family holiday and splashing out on his dream Ford Puma ST. He said, "I got a phone call saying that I'd won a prize, but I blocked the number. I didn't believe it. I just went to work this morning, but my wife called me to get back home.

"I still think I'm dreaming, that it's not real."

Kay added, "Mark thought it was a fake call, but it's real and I never in a million years expected that much money. It means everything to us."

Back To Bali

Retired educator Trevor and his partner Lee - who have 16 children and grandchildren between them - are planning a memory-lane trip to their first holiday destination with their £142,857 cheque.

Trevor said, "Our first holiday together was to Bali 30 years ago. Maybe this is a chance to go back."

People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Matt Johnson said, "The Seaton Burn winners were such a lovely little community, so happy for each other.

"The feelgood factor extends beyond them to the local charities and charities across the country who benefit from the players. Every time players buy a ticket, charities win."

Supporting Good Causes

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Education Trust (opens in a new tab). Supported by our players, this trust delivers grant funding to organisations that provide education, particularly in emergency situations. Benefiting charities include AfriKids, War Child and Save the Children.

It's not just People's Postcode Lottery winners who benefit though. Our amazing players have raised more than £1.1 Billion for thousands of good causes across Britain and around the world. 33% of the ticket price funds life-changing projects which make a difference to people and the planet.
