Big Rewards In Bere Regis
Four neighbours are celebrating this week after winning big with People's Postcode Lottery. The lucky winners' postcode, BH20 7HH, was drawn as the Saturday Street Prize winner today. Each winning ticket in the postcode scooped a whopping £30,000.
David Burns was one of the winners. "This money couldn't have come at a better time for me and my wife, Sue. We had quite a few unforeseen expenses recently, so this is really going to help us out.
"I'm semi-retired and spend my time now as an artist and writer. This money will mean that I will be able to put on some exhibitions, which is really expensive to do. I've been asked to do this a few times before but haven't had the money, so I'm excited that it will be possible now."
Darren Atkins also won £30,000. "I'm so grateful to have the pressure of money worries taken away – I'm a humble guy and this will have all of our wants and needs covered. My son turned eight on Friday, so it's been a fun weekend all round. I'm thinking of taking him to Legoland as a special treat."
Paul Nelson plays with two tickets, meaning he scooped £60,000. "I've never won anything before and never even dreamed that something like this would happen – it has made me realise how lucky you can be. My wife had cancer a few years ago and it brought to home what's important, and that's family. I'm lucky enough to have five children, so they'll each be getting some of the money."
There was one other £30,000 winner who was unavailable to receive their cheque, but their winnings will be transferred directly into their bank account.
Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson said, "I had a brilliant day handing out cheques in Bere Regis. I am delighted for such a fantastic group of players to be enjoying this big win together, and it's been great to meet them all."
A minimum of 30% of the ticket price goes directly to charities. To date, players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised more than £197 Million for more than 2,800 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
A good cause in Bere Regis which has received support from People's Postcode Lottery players is Harbour Challenge, which was awarded £20,000 last year for a respite camp for disabled adults.
There were also some happy winners in South Shields this weekend, as NE34 6QG was drawn as the winner of the £30,000 Sunday Street Prize.
