Success In Widnes
16 winners in Widnes are in the money after their postcode, WA8 0EZ, got lucky in Sunday's Street Prize.
Six of the Terrace Road winners scooped £30,000 each, while another £30,000 was shared by a syndicate. One lucky person doubled their prize to £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets, and another won an incredible £90,000 by playing with three.
There were smiles all around at Jiggy Childcare, where eight local childcare workers shared the £30,000 prize. Playing as a syndicate, the eight lucky winners will be splitting their winnings equally. Nikki, a nursery nurse, whose idea it was to play People's Postcode Lottery, said, "It's an amazing feeling to be a winner. I had suggested that we sign up to play earlier this year as a fun thing to do together, as a team. We've already been lucky enough to have won a few smaller prizes and I never expected that our lucky streak would continue.
"As well as being a close community, we're a really close team and friends so it's great that we'll all be sharing and celebrating this win together."
The win was kept in the family as brothers and neighbours Roy and Peter each pocketed a cheque for £30,000. Roy, an electrician, said, "It's incredible. We didn't even know that the other played People's Postcode Lottery until now so it's double the surprise for us and our families. To have won with my brother, our neighbours, and friends is a pretty unique experience and to have helped support the work of charities at the same time is a great feeling."
Younger brother Peter, a furnaceman, added, "I'm in disbelief, I had no idea how much the winning prize would be so it's an incredible amount of money. Both Roy and myself and our families love to get away on caravanning holidays so I'd love to put the winnings towards upgrading our caravan to a motorhome and do more trips abroad as a family."
Next-door neighbours Barry and Tom were both left £30,000 better off. Motorbike-enthusiast Tom, said, "It's incredible to win. I've been a player for years and to win this is really special. I'm already planning to put the money towards a top of the range Suzuki motorcycle and take it biking across Europe."
Barry, a tanker driver, whose daughter Aisha was among the lucky eight nursery nurses to get a share of their syndicate win, said, "I'm made up with this win. It's a huge sum of money and we'll be able to do a lot with this as a family. It's a great feeling to win and see our friends and neighbours winning too but it's also knowing that we're helping charities make a difference as well. An incredible feeling all round."
Husband and wife Mark and Tracy, who have been playing People's Postcode Lottery for two and a half years, doubled their winnings to £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets. Commenting on their double win, Mark said, "Having this good news and the team from People's Postcode Lottery come to our community has created a real buzz of excitement. It's not very often that I'm lost for words but we had no idea that it would be such a huge amount of money. Now we just have to decide how we're going to spend it! We were in America last year with our friends and we loved it so we'll definitely be making a return visit to Florida very soon, thanks to our winnings.
"We started playing a few years ago and signed up because we were in with a chance of winning but also liked the idea that by playing we were helping charities make a difference."
Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson handed over the winners' cheques. He said, "What a fantastic bunch – there were some very excited people in Widnes today! It was great to see them all celebrating together and I hope they enjoy spending their winnings."
It's not just winners who benefit from People's Postcode Lottery. To date, over £330 Million has been raised for charities across Great Britain and internationally. This Street Prize was part of a draw promoted by Postcode Children Trust.
Warrington Youth Club is one charity close to our Widnes winners that players have helped support. The group received £13,576 last year to expand its health programme designed to support young men.
There were also happy winners elsewhere this weekend after their postcode scooped Saturday's Street Prize.
