It's A Knockout For Nottingham
Seven players in Nottingham got the surprise of their life when they discovered their lucky postcode had earned them a whopping cheque for £30,000 each. The Rosecroft Drive residents scooped the lump sum when NG5 6EN won Sunday's Street Prize.
Icing On The Cake
Having recently celebrated her 60th birthday the previous week, the win was the icing on top of the cake for Helen. She said, "My heart skipped a few beats when I saw what was written on the cheque. I'm buzzing - I'll be on cloud nine for the foreseeable!"
The windfall couldn't have come at a better time for Helen, who has four children and 11 grandchildren. She said, "I had to give up my job as a cleaner 18 months ago after damaging my back. This has really lifted my spirits and will come in so handy. I'm going to be quite sensible with it but I'll definitely treat myself and my husband Ben to some sun and book a holiday to Tenerife."
Getting a knock on her door from Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier was a big thrill for Joyce. Joyce, who has lived on the winning street for 55 years, already has big plans for how she'll spend the cash. She said, "I can't attend to my garden in the way that I used to, so I'm going to get that done the way I like it. I'm going to get some new windows too."
Our winner Joyce was joined by her daughter Lorraine when she received her prize. Lorraine said, "My mum has had a bit of a difficult time the last few months as my dad recently passed away. This will make such a difference to her. Now she'll be able to do what she wants and in the way she wants to do it."
Retired leisure centre manager Eric was taken aback when he received the knock on his door from the People's Postcode Lottery team, as he'd forgot he was playing. He said, "This is the first thing I've ever won and it feels very good indeed. I'm retired so it's come at a time when I can really enjoy it.
"I'm going to use the money to take my wife Isabelle, our two children and their partners, as well as our two grandchildren on a family holiday to Florida. I can't wait! I'll be sharing out what's left from the holiday with the family too, so everyone will really benefit from the good fortune I've been lucky enough to have."
Prize winner Michael couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the size of his cheque. He said, "This is just ace! I'm going to help my kids out and it just means I'll be able to relax and enjoy myself a bit more. I signed up to play because so many charities are supported. By playing I feel like I'm doing my little bit to help and winning on top of that is just a bonus!"
Our three remaining winners weren't available to collect their cheques, but their prize money will be paid directly into their bank accounts.
Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier was in Nottingham to hand out the golden envelopes. He said, "There's nothing better than seeing neighbours win together so I'm delighted for our players who have picked up a prize in Nottingham today. I had the best time meeting some of them and hearing their plans to celebrate and spend their winnings."
Good Causes Benefit
With 32% of the ticket price going to charities and good causes, players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised over £427 Million for deserving causes and projects across Great Britain and internationally.
This draw was promoted on behalf of Unicef UK, which has been awarded over £4.5 Million in funding thanks to players. This vital support is enabling Unicef UK to keep children safe when war or disaster strikes by providing food, clean water and vaccinations. By protecting children from violence and exploitation, the organisation is giving them the chance of a better future.
There are a number of local charities close to our winners that players have helped to support including Nottingham Community Transport Ltd. The group was awarded £20,000 in 2017 to purchase an accessible minibus that provides affordable transport to voluntary and not-for-profit organisations across Nottingham.
With fabulous Prizes announced every single day, it's a great time to become a People's Postcode Lottery player. Take a look at How It Works and, if you're feeling lucky, sign up to play. You never know, our presenters could be knocking on your door!
Nottingham wasn't the only area celebrating a big win this weekend. One lucky player won our Saturday Street Prize.
