Great News For Grimsby

13 June 2022 - DN32 8DF - Grimsby - £30,000

A young dad from Grimsby, whose toddler son has recently been diagnosed with epilepsy, has spoken of his joy at winning today's £30,000 Street Prize thanks to his postcode.

Daniel was one of ten neighbours celebrating after DN32 8DF was announced as a winner with People's Postcode Lottery. Nine people - including Daniel - won £30,000 each. The tenth winner, who plays with two tickets, doubled their prize money to £60,000.

Lucky Break

Daniel was joined by his fiancée, Alisha, and their son, Riley, when he found out he'd won. He said, "What's just happened is life-changing after what we've been through the last few months."

Alisha went on to explain, "Riley had his first seizure at the end of March, and it lasted for over 40 minutes. Then he had another one in May. He was diagnosed with focal epilepsy, which means he can have a fit in his sleep. He's on daily medication now to try and prevent it. He's got global developmental delay, too, so it's been a tough one.

"It's like someone up there is looking down on us and has just given us a bit of luck."

The couple, who both work at a seafood company where they met six years ago, are planning a well-deserved break with their windfall. Alisha said, "I'd like to go to Benidorm. It looks so good on the TV programmes. And we want to get the little man a trampoline - he'll be three next month."

Asked how they'd celebrate, Daniel said, "I've got some cans in the fridge, so I might have a can later. Riley is in nursery tomorrow, so we'll have a proper celebration then."

Back On The Road

Annmarie, who works as a club singer and lunchtime supervisor at a local school, let out a huge gasp when her cheque was revealed.

Mum-of-one Annmarie said, "You don't imagine you're ever going to win anything. It's phenomenal.

"It'll go towards getting the van repaired. I use it for my gigs, I go all over - Skegness, Mablethorpe, Hull - so now I can get back on the road."

A Winning Feeling

Another lucky winner was Kathy. As her cheque for £30,000 was revealed she exclaimed, "Oh my God! It's really strange, but for the last week I've had a gut feeling I was going to win. I could cry my eyes out with happiness."

Retail assistant Kathy has a few plans for her prize money. She said, "I love my neighbours but I want a house with a driveway, so I'll be moving!

"I think this weekend my partner Andrew and I will go down to the travel agents and book a holiday to Hawaii, too."

Early Wish List

Grandmother-of-six, Susan, also won a £30,000 prize.

Susan, a full-time carer for her husband John who has Parkinson's disease, was delighted with her win. She said, "It's very exciting. One of my grandsons has already sent me his Christmas list."

Happy Days

Among our other Street Prize winners were Peter and retiree Trever. Peter, who works in a bar, said, "It's made me very happy, and that takes some doing!"

Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson said, "I've had a lot of fun in Grimsby knocking on doors, ringing bells and surprising our winners with big cheques. It was a pleasure to meet Daniel, Annmarie, Kathy, Susan, Peter and Trever and hearing their big plans!"
