Lots Of Money For Llanferres

18 February 2023 - CH7 5SL - Llanferres - £30,000 + £5,000 Holiday

Five neighbours in Llanferres are celebrating winning a share of £175,000 with People's Postcode Lottery. The lucky neighbours on Cae Gwyn each landed £30,000 and a £5,000 holiday prize when their postcode, CH7 5SL, was announced as a winner today.

The residents winning £30,000 and £5,000 cheques included:

  • Penelope, who's setting sail on a long-awaited cruise and helping with her granddaughter's fundraising.
  • Ceri, who's planning on a road trip around France.
  • Barbara, who's going to the USA.
  • Steve, a Liverpool fan who is going to renew his season ticket and take his family on holiday.
  • Paul, who's planning to take his grandchild on their first holiday.

Heart Was Racing

Penny bagged £35,000 in prizes after she received a knock at the door from People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Danyl Johnson. A stunned Penny said, "It's mind boggling. My heart was going nineteen to the dozen."

Penny and her husband Bob are finally planning a dream cruise and are also going to help their granddaughter's fundraising. Penny said, "We can finally go away in June to Scandinavia, we can now upgrade, and we can get a super-duper cabin.

"We've tried to go on a cruise to Scandinavia for the past three years and it's been cancelled twice and the last time, two days before we were due to leave, I fell over in the kitchen.

"We'll also help our granddaughter, who is going to Kenya this year volunteering with the school and this will help with her last little bit of funding."

Bob added, "She's been collecting money for a couple of years and she was probably going to fall a little bit short, so we'll be able to make up the other bit that she needs."

On Top Of The World

Llanferres mum Ceri was "on top of the world" after pocketing £35,000. Ceri said, "It's like a dream, we must be dreaming. It doesn't feel real whatsoever. I could run up and down the street a few times."

She and her husband Alan are thinking of returning to France for a family road trip. Ceri said, "We love France. We did a month's road trip when the kids were young, and we drove around as much as we could. It's also a chance to practice some French.

"We could go on maybe two or three holidays this year - we like to get value for money.

"We both work full-time, and the kids are in after-school clubs most days so we can give them more than what we could've given them over the summer holidays."

The couple were delighted to win with their neighbours. Ceri said, "It's really special to be able to share it with neighbours that we've known for years and years and who are part of a really special community. It's really unique."

The Best Day Ever

Charity shop worker Barbara was stunned after her two prize cheques were delivered. Barbara said, "It's just been the best day. We won't forget it in a rush, that's for sure."

Barbara's husband Ian added, "It's a double whammy - it's a hell of a lot."

The couple, who have lived on the street for 34 years, are now going on a dream trip to the Rocky Mountains. Barbara said, "We can now go to America! We had a holiday booked to the Rocky Mountains in America, but COVID came so we just shelved everything."

Big Family Holiday

Another winner on the street was Liverpool-fan Steve, who has big plans for his windfall. He said, "We're going to take our daughters and our little grandson Otis, who is four and a half, to Menorca for a family holiday and this will do it.

"And this will get my season tickets paid for next season at Anfield, which is great."

Steve's wife Suzanne added, "Our daughters will be delighted, a holiday paid for!"

Celebrating Together

New grandad Paul was also a winner. When we asked how he felt he exclaimed, "I'm elated! It's totally unexpected, I actually won a tenner last year and I was really happy with that.

"We've recently become grandparents and we were looking to take the youngest one away."

Siobhan, Paul's wife, said, "I can't believe it, you only think this happens to other people."

The neighbours' celebrations are set to start at the local pub. Paul said, "We know most of the people in the village so it's great that we've got people to celebrate along with us."

Siobhan said, "It's going to be a big night out in the pub, methinks."

Steve added, "The Druid, our local, will probably benefit from everyone winning in the community."

People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Danyl Johnson said, "A massive congratulations to our five lucky winners in Llanferres! It was lovely to meet them all and give them each an epic surprise.

"I hope they all enjoy celebrating tonight, spending the cash and have a great time on holiday."
