Street Prize
Glee For Leigh-on-Sea
One postcode in Leigh-on-Sea has landed two lucky people a staggering £30,000 prize each.
The Glendale Gardens neighbours, who both play with the postcode SS9 2AP, scooped the cash after winning Sunday's Street Prize.
Jed was joined by wife Jan when the People's Postcode Lottery team turned up outside his door, ready to present him with his cheque. When he found out exactly how much he had won, he said, "This is unbelievable – I'm absolutely gobsmacked and so surprised to win such a large amount of money. It's unlike anything I've ever experienced before!"
The win couldn't have come at a better time for Jed as he's just celebrating his 65th birthday and is planning his retirement. He said, "My family emigrated to Australia seven years ago and we have two granddaughters over there, so with my retirement coming up, myself and Jan are hoping to spend more time over there. This win will definitely help us do that now!"
Jed signed up to play after hearing that the wife of one of his good friends had won the £1,000 Daily Prize and thought he'd give it a try himself. Jan also added, "It's so impressive hearing exactly how many different charities benefit too!"
Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier, who revealed the cheque, said, "I'm over the moon for both of the winners who have picked up a prize in Leigh-on-Sea! I've loved meeting Jed and Jane and I'm sure they'll have an amazing time with their family in Australia! Make sure you're signed up to play and it could be your door I'm knocking on next!"
With 32% of the ticket price going to charity, players of People's Postcode Lottery have now raised £330 Million for good causes. This Street Prize was part of a draw promoted by Postcode Support Trust.
One charity close to the winners that players have supported is Southend Mencap. The group received £20,000 last year to deliver music education to children and adults with learning disabilities.
