Congratulations Canvey Island
Five People's Postcode Lottery players on Canvey Island, Essex, are celebrating today after SS8 0EA was announced as the winning postcode of our £30,000 Street Prize. Four of the residents landed £30,000 each, while the fifth doubled their prize to £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets.
Their cheques were revealed during a video call by Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson.
Lucky winner Susan's £30,000 windfall comes just two weeks after scooping one of our £1,000 Daily Prizes.
Sadly, her son Steve lost his battle with COVID earlier this year, and restrictions meant the family were unable to give the beloved dad-of-two the send-off they'd wanted. Susan now plans to put some of her prize money towards a memorial. She said, "Next month we're going to have a big memorial for him. We want to celebrate him properly. I just want everyone to come and raise a glass for Steve."
Susan added that she was really pleased for her winning neighbours and loved that her community was winning together. She said, "Lots of people are helping me to do it. It's old Canvey and we are a really close-knit group."
When asked if she had any other plans, Susan said she wanted to treat her family. She added, "Obviously, I should think they'll be getting a little bit. My husband and I have been married for 55 years this year and we always love a holiday, so this one is going to be an extra special holiday. We love cruising so it will be quite a nice long cruise!"
With two wins in a fortnight, Susan couldn't believe her good fortune. She said, "When I got the phone call for this, I'd told quite a few people that I'd won £1,000 and I thought, 'This is a wind-up, someone is winding me up!' Nowhere in my imagination did I think I was going to be lucky enough to win £30,000."
Matt Johnson sent his well-wishes to all our winners. He said, "It was such a pleasure to bring this surprise to Susan today, it's been a very tough year for her and the family and I'm especially happy that we could bring her and the neighbours who have rallied round them a bit of good news after a difficult time.
"A massive congratulations to Susan and all our other winners on Canvey!"
Every day throughout our July draws one postcode will be announced as a £30,000 Street Prize winner. Every player in that lucky postcode will win £30,000 for every ticket they play.
This draw was promoted on behalf of Postcode Justice Trust, which supports organisations including Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and Global Witness with regular grant funding. They help improve lives by delivering justice, human rights and equality.
Lucky winners aren't the only ones who benefit from People's Postcode Lottery. With 33% of the ticket price going to charities and good causes, our amazing players have raised more than £750 Million for over 9,000 deserving causes to date.
