Llangadog Gets Lucky

The owner of a Bed & Breakfast in Llangadog in the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales has scooped £25,000 in the Saturday Street Prize this week. The lucky winner has vowed to spend the prize money on her animals.

Heather Johnson, who runs the Black Mountain View guest house in Gwynfe, plans to use the cash to build new housing for livestock on her small holding, including geese, ducks, chickens and sheep.

Heather said: “Winning the lottery is such a lovely experience, I never win anything. I've already got planning permission to build a new barn and sheds for the animals so now the building work can actually get underway.

“I have been running the B&B for over a year now and this part of Wales is a hidden gem. I wanted to get some livestock, grow my own food, so that I can be self-sufficient and feed my guests with local produce.”

Heather's postcode SA19 9RF was drawn as a winner in the Saturday Street Prize. Another player with the same postcode also won £25,000 but was not available to receive their cheque in person. However, their winnings will be paid direct into their bank account.

People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson, who travelled to Wales to present the five-figure cheque to Heather, added:

"It was a pleasure to visit such a beautiful part of Wales. The reaction from Heather when she opened the gold envelope with the cheque inside was just fantastic. It's great to meet our players who are making such a huge difference to so many good causes.”

As a charity lottery, People's Postcode Lottery players have raised over £108 Million for good causes across Great Britain and internationally. Supported charities near Llangadog include the Llandovery YMCA 5-a-Side Football Team, which received £1,128 to cover hall hire and kit costs, and Amman Valley Railway Society, which was awarded £4,900 to purchase tools to create a new allotment site on derelict land.
